Looks good Longcreek !

BTW-- Just wondering here - looks like alittle Gray leaf  in the lower leafs  did you apply any fungicide on your corn ?

Re: Corn and bean pics in Va

No fungicide, took the chance. That was 64-27 DK corn which is a little more susceptible to some fungus issues as well.
On rented ground that's full of things to drive around. But the rent is cheap! So by the time I drive over top of half my stand, I might make more corn by doing nothing.

Corn Pics from WCMN

Great looking corn Longcreekfarms.  Here are a couple pics of some of mine:

McTower S1.jpg

Pictures taken yesterday afternoon.  28,000 pop, 86 day straight RR, first year trying some no till corn.  Lots of cobs, needs about 3 weeks in the low to mid 80s to finish right, the forcast is all low to mid 70s.

Most of the land I farm is highly variable.  This is the same field on a lighter spot.  Can see the impact of N loss this spring on the corn.  It was yellow until it hit about knee high and the roots caught up to the N.  Also a bit of K deficiency on this particular location.

Re: Corn Pics from WCMN

I wish that Jenny would drop do here in the crop section -- where the TRUE production farmers are --- LMAO  Anyway -- Nate - that is some pretty corn ! the most interesting part is -- if you look at the silks - there are some that -- appear to be done - as in brown - then right next to them - they look like they just came out - thats is what mine did too - a lot of the corn here did - I wonder if it had to do with planting a little to wet - side wall problems - I am speaking about mine - I know you Pros wouldn't even think about doing something like that - lol

Best of luck to you all !

Farm On !

Ken

Re: Corn Pics from WCMN

ECIN, I took these pictures last night. The corn ear picture was taken on the edge of my lawn, that's a 109 day hybrid planted May 2nd with a population of 29,000. The bottom picture is the same field.... I had to climb a ladder to take that picture, the corn is a good 7 or 8 feet tall! BTW, 2 weeks ago I took a business trip to Indy, yesterday I visited my in-laws down in Wabash. From what I've seen of the Indiana crop, I would say corn averages out close to 181 bu an acre and beans somewhere between 45-50 bu depending on August rainfall..... Thank you to the other posters and there pics as well!

Re: Corn Pics from WCMN

I posted a couple pics here a couple days ago and they vanished. Maybe I was bad? This is Tim and Tom, a couple corn plants in one of my many thinned/drowned out spots this year. Hand pollinated them both hoping for at least 5 harvestable cobs, Tom has at least 7 viable silks.

My corn has a ways to go to make grain. Nate and I can't be to far away from each other, his looks about the same, this is a 97 day P hybrid. I sure wish my corn had as much yellow as Longcreeks.

Re: Corn and bean pics in Va

Different parts of the country my friend. The corn pic up there was planted on 4-20. Its a 112 day corn if i remember right without hunting up my notebook. I'm on about the same latitude as shaggy but 1000 miles or so east. (1200 mile trip to ok city) here in the northern tip of Va. Planning on starting to chop sorghum, alfalfa, and corn on the 19th this month if I can get all my drunken buddies(dump truck drivers) in line.
Filling silo used to be work until we abandoned upright silos and wagons. Hell, now it's just fun! I bet if I think things out, I could map the planter with the chopper and just let the ez steer do the line up 😉 just set there and jabber on the cb, push buttons, and fill up the drivers' window for a laugh!

Sounds like fun! Used to pick a bunch of seed a sweet corn, was always fun to wake those truckers up with a few cobs on the cab. 🙂
