Corn growing "at a rapid pace"

"Corn is growing at a rapid pace in our area, and we should have some tassels out this week," says one central Illinois farmer.

Re: Corn growing "at a rapid pace"

Just went out and pulled the whorl off some corn behind my house.Unrolled 3 leaves and fully developed tassel was there, should be showing within a week, pretty sure it will be the first time I had tassels showing in June.

Re: Corn growing "at a rapid pace"

Here in east central Indiana the fields planted mid april are at tassel and a few silking out pretty good. the majority of the corn though, planted in late april is just starting to tassel, looks like mine and all the other uneven corn will stay uneven this year as the short corn is not growing...... beans that are planted look good though!

Re: Corn growing "at a rapid pace"

Early corn in my area is looking good but all looks uneven, I lost alot of nitrogen to early heavy rains, even the guys that siddress their corn have uneven stands this year. With timelly rain we could still have a good crop, a bin buster may be out of the question this year though.
