Cover Crop Planted
No-tilled a few acres of cover crops this past Friday. If we get some rain I'm hoping to get a few days worth of grazing.

Re: Cover Crop Planted
They both look equally bad. I'll try to post a couple pictures comparing the two tomorrow.

Re: Cover Crop Planted
I was afraid someone would ask, let the heckeling begin.
Oats - 73%
Corn - 10.5%
Soybeans - 4%
Hunter turnips - 4.5%
Winfred Turnips - 4.5%
Rapeseed - 2.5%
Purpletop Turnips - 1%
Blended together and seeded at 48# per acre. The soybeans & purpletops were last minute additions of seed that was going to be thrown away by the dealer.

Re: Cover Crop Planted
A couple pictures displaying cover crops about 3 weeks after planting. Getting large enough to start seeing the different species, although I haven't noticed any corn yet. Other than the oats, I couldn't tell you what the others are just yet. I'll be interested to see how the surface applied manure strips will effect growth in a few weeks.
Took an hour off to throw a few targets for my son. He didn't do to bad for his 3rd time out, broke 19 out of 23. Planning on substituting a roaming turkey for the clay targets later this morning.

Re: Cover Crop Planted
Snapped a couple pictures of the cover crops. The one photo where I zoomed in a little you can start to see the corn over the top of the oats. Hoping to get the oats hayed within the next few days and no-till forage sorghum right behind it.

Re: Cover Crop Planted
Cover crops no more, hoping for about 2 bales per acre.
Notice the cattle in the background already chewing their cud, but they'll need to wait a bit, this hay will be fed during the winter months.
