Crop Mix

All,

I've been hearing some grain analysts talk about equal amounts of corn/soybeans being planted for 2015 (88 million acres each, I think.) Are you seeing any movement one way or another away from this even amount--more corn and less soybeans, or vice versa? With these new crop prices, there doesn't seem to be much movement toward more corn, but that could change if acres start getting big up next month.

Re: Crop Mix

I think it's pretty much a givin that the I states will plant close to what they do plant in corn and beans - IN. could drop some arces - we raise a fair amount of tomato's , Potato's , green beans , mellon's and popcorn - could be a shift there some . It looks like Milo could be a big winning out west - really I hope they only plant 78 thousand , both corn and beans .

Re: Crop Mix

some are taking bout 10% and just putting it into hay / grazing.  Japanese Millett etc..

normal rotation for quite a few is plant half corn / half beans ( doubt that will change...gonna be 10% less of both planted by some ).

Re: Crop Mix

Thanks guys. I had heard about milo looking better than corn in some central/west states. I was just at Commodity Classic and seed companies said there is still lots of indecision about corn/soybean acres in areas like the I states.

I guess it probably depends on what the market does in next 6 weeks or so. If corn doesn't start moving off the needled, there probably will be shifting to more beans in those areas. But mkt people are saying it's due for a spring rally.

Hope so.
