Re: Custom Farming

Purdue compiles a custom work survey list for each activity per year and for total hands off operations. Check their site for complete list.

Total hands off was about $100 for corn and $80/acre for beans. Worked planted harvested and hauled. I assume spraying was not included. I have also heard of total production for 1/5 of the crop. That'd be a good deal nowadays!

Re: Custom Farming

I smell loop hole, how do you compute 1/5 when you have a disaster year?

The operator could get crop insurance on their share

Re: Custom Farming

Sounds just like share cropping to me.

Re: Custom Farming

This is not at all related to the convo, but: Boy, are custom farming rates ever low, low, low in the states. Where I am you would be stealing from the operator to get corn done for 100/ac all inclusive.

Everyone must have 50 row planters where you guys are at.

Probably not getting the whole story.

This varies greatly by location.

Re: Custom Farming

Custom rates in my area are dirt cheap. The cost to hire custom is definitely less than doing it yourself if you include your labor and the wear and tear on your equipment.

Problem is, it is difficult to get it done exactly when you want it done and exactly the way you want it done and that usually ends up costing you some yield.

Most of the guys doing it are the 12 to 24 row planter guys who lost some ground to the BTO's or young guys trying to pay for equipment..

Just and example, not actual numbers.
