Dekalb 61-21 GS

Anybody have trouble with this hybrid this year?  I definitely did.....it tanked for people in my area by more than 40 bushels per acre compared to other hybrids.  Big thanks to Dekalb for standing behind their products and making things right for next year.

Re: Dekalb 61-21 GS

SE IA, I had it in our plot.

Had 3 same genetics, 3 different trait packages. 3 different Yields.

DKC61-19 (VT3) yielded 215 bu/A

DKC61-21 (GEN SS) yielded 214.6 bu/A

DKC61-22 (RR2) yielded 198.4 bu/A.

This was on Sb ground, minimum till. We have rootworm pressure on sb ground but not severe pressure at this point. The rootworm corn definetly paid for us this year.

From what I have observed this genetic family was not Dekalb's best this year. DKC61-69 and DKC63-42 were still top runners in our area. I don't think the SS trait is the problem, I believe it is the genetics of the corn. Good genetics will out yield poor genetics witha good trait any day.

Re: Dekalb 61-21 GS

A friend of mine near Galesburg, IL had quite a bit of it and it didn't do so well for him, he said.  Not as good as other varieties.

Re: Dekalb 61-21 GS

The majority of the problems with the hybrid was in corn on corn.  I'm in central IL (Livingston county) and myself and two of the neighbors all had bad results in corn on corn with 61-21.  Real small kernels.  Supposedly the 61-69 and 63-42 are in short supply as they did not grow any of it this summer.

I was real pleased with some of Agri-Gold's hybrids....6533VT3 and 6458VT3 performed well as did the 6384VT3 pro.
