Down Corn
Is anyone dealing with down corn either from weather events, disease, or a combination of the two? Have you heard of certain locations that have it worse than others?
Thanks!

Re: Down Corn
Don't have any down yet. Storms on the way tonight may change that. Patrick

Re: Down Corn
I was at an ISU field day at Crawfordsville in southeast Iowa on Thursday and one CNH rep talked at some length about down corn in the Burlington, IA area. He gave some tips on how to deal with it, such as not to run the head too flat as it caused the stalks to come in at a less than optimal angle and have more likelhood of plugging.
He mentioned the auger some see on the side of combine heads and that it seemed to work well but high tin may not word so well at getting through lodged stalks.
I can get his name if you need it.

Re: Down Corn
I'm glad things are looking good for you. Hopefully you make it through harvest without that changing!

Re: Down Corn
We used one of these a few years back on some downed corn. It kept the corn from "building up" on the head.

Re: Down Corn
Did end up getting some wind the other night. A few spots in a couple fields went down, bun not bad. Getting it shelled as soon as possible, before it gets worse. Patrick

Re: Down Corn
I had one field that slowed me down. The one I'm in now has a few down spots but not bad. I'll feel better when it's all in the bin. I imagine I'm losing some yield but am not sure how much.
