European corn borer

All,

Do any of you still have any problems with European corn borer (ECB) ? I know I’ve had agronomists tell me that it’s still out there and that ECB can feed on plants than corn, but seems like ECB outbreaks have been limited in recent years.

Would it still be a concern if you planted conventional corn to get a non-GMO premium? Any activity of ECB in your area in recent years?

Re: European corn borer

It's been maybe 10 years ago - I seen a local field go flat from them - I went back to Non - GMO last year - I did spray for them - Moths were every where - I have a Hagie + insecticide is cheap insurance - so sprayed it - I know - I know - I'm not practicing IPM : )

Re: European corn borer

Thanks ECIN. I know an entomologist a couple years ago told me that there are something like 200 plants other than corn that they feed on, so given the opportunity, they are out there.

One thing I have noticed is when I used to drive long distances before Bt came along, I'd have to clean off my windshield every gas fill during July/August due to the moths hitting my windshield. Never have to do that anymore. So Bt traits are having some impact!
