Fall Nitrogen Applications

Who has applied fall nitrogen this year? Has the weather played a part in your decision? I know some farmers in my area haven't been able to with the late harvest and now the cold temperatures.

Re: Fall Nitrogen Applications

I did about 600 acres. north iowa had a short fast run of about a week, but we are "wintered in" now. I guess you'd say that weather has affected appliations. Also, i've heard that 32% prices are veiwed as favorable compared to nh3, so that has affected fall applications some. I did have some fall tilled cornstalks that were (i thought anyway) too rough for good nh3 application and sealing.

Re: Fall Nitrogen Applications

Thanks for your thoughts. I figured that was the case. I was curious to see if there were fewer applications because of the weather, or if people were purposely waiting until spring.

Take care!

Re: Fall Nitrogen Applications

A little late here, but just talked to my supplier and here in central IA less than 10% of the anhydrous N got applied this fall, wet-then frozen ground.  He claims a lot of the farmers are looking at liquid N

for the Spring application.  He will have a price in a week.
