Fertilizer availability in MN-Dakotas-WI

All,

I've read reports about Upper Midwest (MN-the Dakotas-WI) farmers having difficulty getting fertilizer shipments due to shortage of railcars. Have any of you folks up north had trouble getting fertilizer this spring?

Potash has been tight to completely unavailable in SW Michigan.  I've heard it blamed on the Great Lakes being frozen over so late that barges and ships couldn't get through and also on railroads hauling oil instead of fertilizer because they could make more money.

Money, we're going through all this crap for money?  Sure wish someone would have told me sooner cause I'd have changed a couple things.  Smiley Very Happy

I have been hearing of fertilizer shortages north of me. Im on the Michigan/Indiana line. I had mine bought and paid for months ago, so no problems here. The rail car shortage is getting old, we cant eat oil.

Hey BSF, maybe we ought to give up farming and go into the railcar manufacturing business.  Then we could ship whatever the heck we wanted to.

LOL sounds like a plan Shaggy! We need to recruit Ken a.k.a ECIN as our sales manager, course then we would have to make sure we shipped things other than beer and nascars LOL!

An article about rail shipment of fertilizer I ran across on the DTN.

Not just there.  Here in NE, I was told that I could only get the Phos I had contracted, and no more.  They couldn't spare even an extra ton or two.
