Flattened corn
From northern Illinois agronomist, Jim Doolittle: "60mph winds will apparently flatten Croplan 5338 corn. Sucks to be the guy that sold it to the unhappy farmer. :("
But, how much lodging overall with these kinds of winds, one has to wonder?

Re: Flattened corn
Nearly all corn in my area has been harvested. There are just a few fields of corn standing that the larger farmers havent gotten to yet. Im actually really surprised at how well some of this corn is holding up with the high winds. I think most of the corn left standing in my area is Pioneer and Dekalb hybrids. Its probably a good thing it was soo dry and harvest conditions were very good else we might have had a disaster.

Re: Flattened corn
The corn I'm in now is standing very well. Wyffels 5640 RR. Wyffels 6526 VT3 didn't stand quite as well in another field, but was OK. I'm about 1/3 done.

Re: Flattened corn
Jim have you had good luck with Wyffels corn? What is the price difference between Wyffels and Pioneer?

Re: Flattened corn
I can't say I'm in love with or dislike Wyffels. Partly, it's a recommendation of my seed dealer. It's cheaper than Pioneer. This year, my yields are down on all numbers.

Re: Flattened corn
In my area this year if you still have corn out you ought to expect it to have problems. Things dried down so quickly and so early, and then to have winds like that hitting it ... the surprise should be anything is still standing.
