How are the crops in your area?

Just wondering how everybody's crops are doing. It should be late enough for most to have an idea of what there corn and some of there beans will do this year. Here on the Michigan, Indiana and Ohio lines things are looking pretty good. Corn took a beating early with heavy rains here followed by 90+ degree heat with very little rain for a month at pollination. On my farm I would guess my corn yield in the 120 bu, to 130 bu an acre range.... not great but still a crop. Beans are another story, our beans are some of the best I have ever seen. We have had good timelly rains as of late. There will be many in this area harvesting 50 bushel beans this year. Last year my wife and I took our honeymoon to Colorado and we saw crops off I-80 all along the way, but this year we will not get the cornbelt tour so I was just wondering if anybody would want to give an update of there area.

 West Central Ohio-poor to average. Nothing to brag about. Too much rain early not enough rain lately. Much better crops last year.

I Ilive close to Hyw. 92 east of  the Des Moinesiver. No crops on the river bottoms or any sized creek.                            skunk bottoms still mostly under water. The flat ground is very spotty. Some corn knee high and yellow, no roots to speAK OF IN MOST OF THE FIELDS. you can walk 5o ft. and find little yellow stalks trying to shoot and walk another 5o and find corn 10 ft. tall. Will be fun to harvest.. The beans for the most part look good now but disease problems are beginning to show up. We traveled to the twin cities over the weekend and from interstate 80 north everything begin to look good .The farther north the better the crop, beautiful condition, Alalafa, corn beans all very nice. We will probably see every yield imaginable this year. We are thankfull that it at least , the water, didn't get in our house as it did in many. Have a safe harvest, John

Yikes!! Checked inside fields yesterday. One field is twisted real bad from 60 mph storm. Looks like a sugar cane field. All fields have small ears. Too wet, then too hot here in WC Ohio. I have lowered my yield est. by 20 bu. per ac. maybe 140 ave.

Here in SENE i heard some of the earlier corn having pollination issues, and after looking at mine i see the same thing.  not a real pretty ear this ear.  Some have been "tipped" by the weather at least an inch.   I'd say an average crop.  no bin buster.

 Here in eastern iowa corn looks good from the road.  I walked into acouple feilds yesterday and its tipping back 1 to 2 inches. My 108 and 110 day corn is starting to dent, looks as the kernels will be kinda shallow this year.  Looks to be a good crop but no bin buster.

Near perfect so far here in SCMN for corn. Seems to rain at least twice a week and only two times this year have we had more than one inch and never more than two inches at a time. Bikini temps nearly every day since late May.

SDS started showing up in beans nearly a week ago (seems pretty early). Vegetative growth in the beans has this year has been tremendous, especially compared to the last two years. Most of mine are 3 feet tall and some started to lodge already. I would expect white mold to be prevelant pretty soon. Haven't had to spray for aphids yet although some neighbors have.

Hay has been a real challenge to put up but we've been pretty lucky.

Here in Central Wisconsin (irrigated sand country) the grain crops look good. Corn is starting to dent and beans look very good. We are just entering white mold season and it looks like oneof the better  years we have had in terms of yield potential and lack of WM. 

Processing sweet corn tonnage is off 10% to 20% the last two years average. 9 ton/a vs 10 ton/a

Even the dry land looks good. Have had enough rain that the areas with perched water are going to be challenged.

The criterea to holding yields is whether we have kept up with our fertilizer program. We have had numerous rains. I've got 5 total N and S applications on field corn. Sweet corn has had 4 applications. This is 2 apps (per crop)more than Febuary pencil farming.

All our 1,200 areas of sweet corn arces were harvested by Aug 10th with the majority gone by Aug 1st. Normally we are starting harvest the 14th and finishing the end of August. As early of a harvest as I can remember (since 1985).

I hate to even post, but my DH just came in and said beans would go 15bushels to the acre. OUCH!!!! We have not had any rain since the first of June. I just hope the 2 fields we can water will be better. Hope everyone has a safe harvest.
