Is anyone combining?

All,

It's another rainy dreary day in Central Iowa. Is there any clear harvest weather anywhere that you know of?

Re: Is anyone combining?

Nope just got the grain truck pulled out last night before it started raining again. pulled so hard with the 4 wheel drive tractor the chain got to hot to hold and it does not bend much anymore. anybody need a 20 foot 5/8 chain that doesn't bend? PS is was a little rusty but that all flew off. I think it may have exceeded its maximum load limit.

Re: Is anyone combining?

It would be a week if it got nice today, 9 Oct.  Totally soaked in east-central Iowa.

yes, looking that way across most of the Midwest, unfortunately. Shades of 2009? Maybe worse? 😞

No, maybe Sat.  Even then we will have to pick and choose our fields.  Its no fun to steer the combine through wet spots with its brakes.

Re: Is anyone combining?

Uggghhhh......sounds awful. I did check the weather forecast for Central IA this a.m. and it looks like (mostly, anyways) clear skies for the next 10 days. Then again, I saw a forecast where parts of eastern ND and northwestern MN might get up to 8 inches of snow. Reminds me of how awful 2009 went. Hope this wet trend breaks soon.

Best,

Re: Is anyone combining?

Yes, a very good forecast for central Iowa.  Very thankful, I can see some clear sky just now out my east office window.  Hopefully this will stymie the bean sprouting that was taking place.

Re: Is anyone combining?

Had a very bad storm here in east central IN on 8-25. Been shelling corn with roll-a-cones and a reel running one way at 1.5 mph. Making good progress but the volunteer corn is thick and nearly knee high. Working on beans when weather is fit but green stems and a slow go. Yields are satisfactory. Very good in the standing corn.

Hoping you western guys finally get a break from the rain. Been watch radar and know you have had too much. God speed.

Re: Is anyone combining?

Yes, hot and heavy.  The big switch from corn to beans happened Weds. PM.  The stems are dry, brittle and zip through the combine with ease.  The quality of the beans seem to be satisfactory.  About 12% moisture.

Yields 45 to 60-a lot of late June hail in this area.

Re: Is anyone combining?

Took a load to Prairie City yesterday, they were really hitting the beans all the way up to the Minnesota border.  It`s wet spots but if the weather holds, all the beans that aren`t in river bottoms should be out by the end of next week.  Combines not moving fast though. 1 or 2 still chopping silage.
