Re: Land roller not worth it in Iowa

No one talked about the reduced damage to your combine due to reduced amount of dirt entering the combine after rolling.  This is a value that would be hard to determine.  I do know you save in sickle parts and fuel when you have to stop to clear the sickle of pushed dirt.  The savings of the last two items would not pay for the rolling, but if rolling resulted in less damage to the combine because of dirt entering, it may pencil out positively.

Re: Land roller not worth it in Iowa

Jim I doubt a roller would help much in Iowa. You guys out there have for the most part great soil without stones and hills to make for erosion caused by a roller. Im my part of the country a roller would probably be a nice benefit to some. Most tillage in this area gets done with a disc pulling a crumbler or packer. The ground I farm is above average for this area with very few rocks but go 5 miles in any direction and you'll be in stony gravely dirt, perfect for a roller.

Re: OK fellows

I've looked at a brillion 'pulverizer" that would take care of alot of the problems without breaking all the residue loose. Maybe similar to what you're talking about.
