Leave Your Iron In The Shed

The best practice for minimizing soil erosion and building soil tilth it so leave the tillage implements in the shed this fall and plant a cover crop.

Because it's dry, deep tillage is not going to be needed to break up compaction.  Chopping stalks is less beneficial than leaving the residue lay as it is, they say.

Are you going to go over some acres this fall or leave things alone?  I don't fall till anyway, so this is not anything new to me, but some around here do.  The guys who chopped corn silage on hilly ground might be insterested in a cover crop or they might get a little nervous if the rains are heavy next spring.
