Narrow-row corn

All,

A few years ago, I did some stories on 15-inch row corn, but haven't followed it much since then. Has this been a trend in your area? Or is the bulk still planted in 30-inch rows?

Re: Narrow-row corn

The bulk is 30" around here, I think yield results are mixed for 20" rows. I think around here pushing populations above 36,000 has kind of plateaued and 30" can handle that yet.  I could see as genetics and equipment improves, there will be a day that corn will be planted in 12" rows and 12" apart with 43,560 population.

Re: Narrow-row corn

Thx, BA Deere, it will be interesting to watch the 12-inch row concept that Harry Stine/Stine Seeds is working on. I know I've read from an sunlight harvesting aspect, 12-inches is pretty close to the ideal 15-inch spacings and it's easier to do from a mechanical perspective.

Best,

I don't personally know of any corn less than 30" around here.
