New Technology Grain Moisture Testers
Most of us know that the USDA changed the acceptable technology for grain moisture testing last yaer. According to a Dickey John rep I hear speak today, there is enough difference - 0.5 to 1.0 points - that the farmer can be off a fair amount on $5 corn. In other words, he is informing us and also mentioning that he has a $4000 tester for sale. He says the old system was not accurate for all varieties, for all regional varieties and for some GMO varieties.
Here is the USDA discussion.
Here is the farmer oriented tester, similar to the official version but without some features.
For the time being, I think I'll cointinue to take my old-style portable to the COOP and calibrate it to their official version.
What are you doing about this - anything?
