Problem weeds this year?
I just saw a report from Aaron Hager at the University of Illinois about the growing danger of Palmer amaranth this year and how it could become a "huge problem" if at any point a glyphosate-resistant cluster of the weed is discovered. So, it sounds like P.A. could be one to watch this year, maybe.
What other weeds are on your mind as you look ahead to your crop this year?

Re: Problem weeds this year?
Jeff, In our NC Iowa area, waterhemp probably gets all the resistance attention. I would say that most around here tankmix muliple products including glyphosate. Whats funny is that glyphosate has gotten so cheap(under $3/ac) that it is the additive to other products...MikeM

Re: Problem weeds this year?
I asked our local monsanto dealer why we had to pay the roundup tech fee if it doesn't work? He said that we are no longer paying it!!?? I assumed it was in that price somewhere... Asmus said treflan sales had drasticaly increased and john deere said they were going to build cultivators, again. and skinny ties, crew cuts and '67 gto's are going to be the next "new" thing.

Re: Problem weeds this year?
John, Treflan and John Deere cultivators are right in your wheelhouse..got to get a poke in when I can. Those who chose to fight the tech fee by using RR year after year crop after crop are the ones fighting resisitance. Even when corn went RR, I used something with it or before it and those products change every couple of years. Halex is a great product but that will get changed in the future...MikeM

Re: Problem weeds this year?
No worries here, yet. I have to cultivate 3/4 of my acres, to be able to irrigate it, so I might as well go one more day, while I'm at it, and do it all. Not too many weeds resistant to that, at least not yet. Crop safety varies, depending on time of day, how much sleep I've been getting, and what's on the radio, though.

Have been fighting ragweed for a number of years and now marestail entered this area last year. Looks like 2-4-D on most everything but hate waiting a week after spraying to plant beans.

Re: Problem weeds this year?
I do try to stay on top of new tech.
Right now the "Major Players" are pushing to deploy a trait that will make crops essentially "Agent Orange" ready.
The question is: Are we REALLY ready to deploy either the trait OR the Agent Orange [to be fair it IS a dirivative form...but not THAT dirivitive.)?
If the weeds adapt, as they have to Round-Up and other Herbicides, what kind of weeds will we have then?
(I'm thinking "Day Of The Triffids"[Joking])
