Re: RR alfalfa
Buck, my alfalfa isn't RR but I hit it with gly 2 or 3 times a year. I've done that for nearly 10 years. Can you say timing is everything.

Re: RR alfalfa
Just thinking, if I switch from cow/calf to stockers I might want some better feed.

Re: RR alfalfa
Friend of mine has 40 acres RR. Same deal, it never looks real good. No idea what soil tests are on his dirt, but I'm sure ph is low. Alfalfa likes it at 7 or so, and I've never seen any lime trucks over there.
I use harmony before green up in the last part of winter on mine. Not labeled, but works well. Shaggy has a good way as well. I'm assuming spraying with the warrior in the tank on the same shot?

Re: RR alfalfa
LCF, the hay man does his own thing on the alfalfa so I can't tell you with 100% certainty what he all applies. I know he hits it after every cutting with some type of a foliar feeding and any other pesticide it might need. I about chit the first time I saw him add glyphosate to the tank but he said don't worry it wasn't the first time. Works like a charm. Looks like 2013 will be the last year for this particular field for awhile. It's been in production for about 10 years now and is starting to get over taken by grass. I'm thinking about no-tilling wheat into it later this fall followed by milo or corn in 2015 depending on available moisture and back to alfalfa in 2016.

Re: RR alfalfa
Brother has 20 acres, don't remember year planted put it was just before the suspension. Did good during last years drought so decided to keep it one more year. Doing so great will probably do another year on it. Soil tests every 2 years, manure and then fertilizer when needed.

Re: RR alfalfa
I believe gramoxone is labeled for post cutting. Gly is not, but I am sure it works on the same principle: there is no risk to the alfalfa stand because there is no foliage to spray.
Your mostly getting the rosette weeds, like dandelions, that aren't chopped in cutting.

Re: RR alfalfa
Shaggy, I would assume he's knocking down leaf hoppers in the same pass. I've been using a Cps product called reinforce K on alfalfa at 3 gal/acre and soy for a few years. Actually made 10 more bushel beans for 10 less dollars last year. Add some borosol at a qt to the acre with the bug spray on alfalfa at re- greenup and she will be a healthy crop. Haven't tried a humic acid on it yet, but I bet it would pay. Good luck!

Re: RR alfalfa
Like I said earlier, he takes care of everything including the management so I've not a clue what he applies. He does an excellent job, if it isn't broke don't fix it.
