Re: Roundup Ready 2 beans
I know different areas of the country require different techniques but I have dropped my bean 15 inch row populations to 150,000 ppa and have had great luck with yields. The escalating price of seed was a major factor in reducing population. That may or may not work in your area.

Re: Roundup Ready 2 beans
I probaly could decrease the population in the good ground. If I had a planter where I could change the population on the go I would. The problem is we have drastic ground changes here where you go from good to bad in a matter of yards. In the bad ground beans this year were barely knee high when combining whereas the good ground had beans waist high. So to produce anything on the bad ground we plant heavy, maybe too heavy, but it helps me sleep at night.

Re: Roundup Ready 2 beans
2011 RR2 do not have to be treated like last year. A lot of people are comparing untreated RR1 to the Treated version in RR2. I think the typical Warden or Acellerron treatment was $10-13 more per bag. You have to compare apples to apples. Now, you can agrue whether or not you need the treatment, but if you plant early when it is cold and wet you need to treat. I saw better yields this year than last on my RR2s, so I am going all that way next year.

No. I wish I had the ground they do. I'm 60 miles west of Archie in Ottawa county.

Re: Roundup Ready 2 beans
Last evening I received a phone call from some markrting group I presume offering me $10 to answer questions about RR2 beans. There must have been 20 or more questions. Some of them pertained to the cost of RR2 seed being cheaper next year. While the questioner didn't directly say it would be cheaper, it was implied. I said that I had heard it would be but didn't know for sure. When asked if I would plant more RR2 beans if the price was lower for next year I replied yes. The RR2 beans did do better for me this year but we got rains when we needed them so had a good year even with late planting. May 28-June 19. With the extra cost of the seed it was pretty much a wash as to profit per acre.
