Running bin fans

A friend told me at the coffee shop that he had a hot spot in his corn.  I shipped some earlier this week and it was all OK.  Still, I went home and turned on a couple of fans for overnight.

Re: Running bin fans

Had one neighbor comment he had corn sprouting in one spot in a bin.  Looked at mine, and it is all OK, but when we get a cold, crisp night, I plan to run fans.

Re: Running bin fans

The best way to avoid hot spots is run the fans enough, cool the grain slowly, avoid fines, spread evenly and then have enough room to remove the center of the bin, or sell a load . It is amazing what removing a small amount will tell you about the condition of the grain. Even if you have to sell some before you planned to, that is much better than letting the grain spoil
