Seeds per square foot =bushels
Approximately how many kernels of corn behind a combine does it take to equal one bushel per acre.??

It all depends on the average kernel size, but the standard rule of thumb would be 2 kernels per square foot would equal a bu/A. Small kernel size might be 2.2 kernels/sq ft; large seed might take only 1.8.

Thanx thats what I thought but custom harvester tried to tell me it was nine kernels to equal one bushel!!

If he isn't using a chaff spreader, it might be 9/sq. ft. as everything put in a 5 ft area, also I have found that our chaff spreader or straw chopper tends to throw more kernals further out as they are the heaviest material getting thrown, so you just need to check across the full harvest width.
