Spring N applications

How are spring nitrogen applications going? Has everyone been able to get in the field?

Re: Spring N applications

No "spring" N for me, All sidedress. It was dry enough to get some field work the last few days. 4+ inches of rain friday will slow things down around here for a while.

Re: Spring N applications

Still dry as hell around here.  No N applied due to the fact that we cant buy a darn rain at this location.

Re: Spring N applications

Kacey,

I was talking with an ISU agronomist this morning who said that using a nitrogen inhibitor such as N-Serve or N-stinct in the spring only delayed nitrification about 3-4 weeks.  If it was put on with NH3, it was too early to be effective when the heavier May and June rains came and thus would not prevent N loading in the runoff.

Re: Spring N applications

I would sure like to send Shaggy a few inches of rain right now. If someone would offer a couple back this way in August. Dad ask if I was going to start planting next week. If it stopped raining now it would take at least a week just to get started dry fertilizer and the limited tillage I do. Planting in two weeks doesn't look good with the forecast.

Re: Spring N applications

Thanks for thinking of me Buck, and I would gladly accept the moisture.  It is still undetermined if I could repay you later in the year.
