Starter Fertilizer Hot Spots
Im glad to see the corn is getting tall and looking really good here in North Eastern Iowa. I have a question a few of you guys might be able to help with. I am doing some market research and trying to find areas in the US that one would concider "hot spots" for farmers using liquid starter fertilizer. I have noticed that Ohio, South Eastern Nebraska, and parts of ND are using it when planting but I am looking for other regions where people are applying liquid starter when they plant. Any help would be great!

Re: Starter Fertilizer Hot Spots
Here in SW Indiana most farmers use starter fert. the exception, would be the 24 row and larger planters.
The most common used liquid is 28 2x2, or a mix of 28 and 10-34-0 in 2x2

Re: Starter Fertilizer Hot Spots
Here in NC WI, if we don't use starter to "warm" our cold ground, the crop will never reach potential. We just don't get the heat units here and need to get the crop out and going as quickly as possible to capture all the heat we can.

Re: Starter Fertilizer Hot Spots
I would say that 90% of farmers in SE MN use starter. Alot of people use the liquid 28, but we use dry fertilizer. It's alot slower having to fill up all the time but more utilized fertilizer for your buck I think. Some sidedress the 28 after planting, but a year like this back fired on them because crops got to big and the it was to wet to get it on.
