Sugar Factory Lime and Eggshell Fertilizer
Has anyone had any success using sugar factory lime? I also have a poultry house hatchery nearby my farm and they have offered up the eggshells for fertilizer. Has anyone ever used this? Eggshells are made up of mainly calcium, which is lime. Seems ok to me.
Give me your thoughts, experiences etc.

Re: Sugar Factory Lime and Eggshell Fertilizer
Years ago when they still processed beets here in Ohio...we could get Sugar Factory Lime for the hauling. It was cheap enough..but you are hauling a wet product..and thus it doesn't spread quite as evenly as dry lime would. You probably will need a spreader specifically set up for sludge lime to get it done in a reasonably even manner. On the plus side...I believe most of that lime is fairly high in calcium. So if you have some heavier soils...it may perform an added bonus by loosening up the soil just a bit. It is fairly fine..so the neutralizing action of it should be relatively quick....maybe quicker than dry lime. Also..if it's that "reactive"..you might get by with a little less product....but you hardly know how much you're getting on..because of the water content of it.
