Too wet to plant

I started keeping rain records April 1.   After an unusally snowy winter we had 5.6" rain in April.  In May 1.2" on the 3rd,  .8" on the 12th,  it started raining again Saturday evening and have had 1,6" since then.  It doesn't look good in the forecast either.  60% chance every day this week.

Hey..do you want a good deal on some 108 day seed corn?....I'm about to call my seed supplier..and ask if they have any soybean seed to trade me for it...

Re: Too wet to plant

Ha, sorry Pup but no.  I've given up on corn.  May 15 is it for me on corn.   I have 4 minibags of RR2 beans 3.0 maturity in a wagon that I might have for sale as I doubt they can be returned once in a wagon.  They went 60+ last year planted late May.  It'll be a week and a half minimum now, and it's still raining.   When my son came up from Columbus last Friday he said there was about a 5 mile stretch along 53 by Tiffin that really got dumped on.  Is that your area?   I had .8" out of that one.   Good luck.  And to think I was gonna cancel crop insurance this year!!!

Re: Too wet to plant

Yep that was our area...1.5 inches Wed night/Thurs Morning. I got up at 4:30AM..and a cell just hung over us for almost 2 hours..with rain and pea sized hail. The rest of the week was more rain...and I'm just waiting to see when it's going to stop. Just getting the lawn mowed has been a nightmare.

I wouldn't give up on those 3.0 maturity beans yet. Last year those double crop beans I planted on July 7 were 3.1's..and with the late frost they matured well. No green beans in the pods..and ran 33 bpa. Can't hope for that every year..but it does give you some idea of how late the maturity can go.

It wasn't that long ago 33bpa was considered a half way decent crop.  Nothing to brag about but enough to keep you in the black.  Doing that now as a dbl. crop is amazing.

Where is this rain coming from?  Radar is clear but I'm getting rain on the north windows.

Same here

Got 50 acres planted and a couple of neighbors got some in but that is about all I have seen around here.

I have had 12-13 inches since April 1 and 25 miles east they have had almost 20 inches.

Doesn't look like a good year at all to me.

Re: Too wet to plant

This latest bout of rain is coming from a storm off the east coast and circling up and hitting us.  I'm no weather guru but I sure don't remember getting rain from this direction before.  This seems to be an area that we are getting it from every direction possible.
