What If We Lose Glyphosate?

There is a big trial starting in California with 1600 or so alleging that glyphosate causes cancer.

If this and what will likely be more trials starts going against Bayer/Monsanto and all the other companies that make glyphosate, what will farmers do for weed control?

Not going back to cultivators if we're already committed to no-till.

Mechanical robots?  Maybe, but when and at what cost?

Re: What If We Lose Glyphosate?

Well we have lost our marbles and the nut crowd is yelling for veggies and food without meat, fertilizer, or mechanization.

We might be looking at each other from different sides of the fence here but , I for one am tired of working for these fools.

We are at risk of loosing a generation to irrational thinking.....  It is going to be painful discovering we can't find anyone rich enough to enable this amount of foolishness.

Re: What If We Lose Glyphosate?

These "vegans" might be getting alot of press but I heard some official say

this week that meat consumption is at an all time high in the US.

Need to do a little research to confirm.

We use conventional corn in our rotation in an attempt to avoid building resistance.

May not be a viable option for many but on our small scale it seems to be working.

Loved the glypho/liberty rotation with a little steel mixed in— until the chemical companies killed it with greed.

Re: What If We Lose Glyphosate?

Erosion people don't want cultivators.  Vegans don't want animals.  Old farmers can't walk crops.

We may have a little change coming.

Re: What If We Lose Glyphosate?

I`ll try and keep this as non-political as possible.   But look at the generational shift that`s occurring, politicians on one side are clamoring over one another to see who can be 'most green" and nicey-nice.  I look at these 5,000hd hog sites, what will be their future if in 2020 that one side gets even more emboldened with ballot box wins?  Why there`ll be glyphosate resistant iron weeds growing up around the empty barns.   I don`t see any compromise in that group. The cover on Successful Farming magazine in 2025 January issue might be a picture of a hippy farmer with the caption "We`re all Organic now!".

Plant cereal rye and liberty and forget fly.

Not to wish for the end of glyphosate, but all things must pass, including chemicals.

I'm sure there are loads of new technologies for weed control that are just waiting for a gap to fill.
