anyone use subsurface drip irrigation?

I have a 10 acre field that I would like to try using sum kind of drip tape system on for corn and beans. Anybody try such a thing?

What are you thinking of using for a water source.

Re: anyone use subsurface drip irrigation?

They have a field irrigated that way at Husker Harvest Days.

They claim that  600 GPM through drip tape, is as good as 800 GPM (or even a little more) through a pivot.

It is pricey to install, and you can't till too deeply, or you can cut it (about anything is safe, except maybe a subsoiler, but something to be aware of)

The wild card, is how long the tape lasts.   I know of pivots running 30+ years already, and I'm using gated pipe over 40 years old.
