ecin herbicide question
Hi ECIN, First, I came here to most likely to ask a question. Giant ragweeds., was thinking of going to the mothball of herbicides to kill them. Amvac still makes sceptre and it is labeled to the job. Now, understand can not plant corn for at least 9 month's. But horseweeds just kill yield so not much choice. Also plant non-gmo for the chicken industry. therefore roundup is out and good riddance. People using a gallon per acre just made it miserable to everyone. My question, any suggestions,

Re: ecin herbicide question
Authority first is pretty good at knocking them down and keeping them down
Sounds like you are nongmo but if you are not on some acres using xtend beans with dicamba on the front end with that authority first or maxx will do a heckva job.

Re: ecin herbicide question
Thanks Mizzou, already use sharpen, but never used authority. It does seems hot, You do have to use the one you suggested according to the label, also long wait time to plant next year. Again thanks.

Re: ecin herbicide question
lla --- Been pretty busy around here and just seen your post : )
Boy - you ask a good question here - I don't know what state your in - but will tell what I have used - seen and what ever else .
Years ago - Dow had a product called Hornet - In came in the little bags you throw in the sprayer - I had a train wreck with it the first year - I was using 28 as a carrier and it turned to jello in the tank ! It was I believe the first year for it - So I had to use a 5 gallon bucket and put the packets in WATER - then stir it up then dump that in to the inductor - Then from then on I just used water as a carrier and got along fine ! I will say that may be the best product I ever used to control giant rags + cockleburs ! I sprayed in right behind the planter - Never a pre plant -
I have a 150 here that was always a problem child for giant rags - 3 years and I had every farm cleaned up - the past few yeas - they are coming back - I'm going to check and see if I can still get it - They say is can damage small corn - but I never seen any of that here - of on neighbors that used it . GREAT PRODUCT !
Authority XL - I pretty sure that's for beans only - it's a pre emerge - if beans are up - you can't use it ! Also used it 3 years on beans - first year - GREAT results ! Did grwt job on marestail ! Clean beans ! Years 2 and 3 - good results - but it hurt the beans ! Yearr 3 - had to replant around 225 acres of beans - Planted beans - nice and warm - end of April - and it turned off cold and wet - this is NOT a product to use IF you plant early beans - nice and warm and it stays warm - you will love it - as in control of marestail !.
Sharpen - I have had mixed results from this product - Fair to good - more fair than good - To me - One of the most OVER priced products out there for what you get .
Your are going to shake your head on this one ! But one combo I have used and I have great results with - Is a pre-emerge ( For Corn ) of 22 ozs of Power Max + 2 Qts of 4-L ( Atrazine ) You will NEVER believe this - but had season long control - chemical supplier couldn't believe it either - Did that for a few years - thought maybe I was just lucky !
Giant Rags - always come up latter around here - I have found the best way to control them is with Status - It's way above Clarity - I have seen Clarity get up and move across a whole field in low area's - With the Status - up have to USE drops ! On my stuff and any custom work - If beans are close - like across the road or right up against the target field - I will pull in 2 rows - I Never spray over the outside row when there is a chance to lose the product . I tell the guys I spray for what I'm doing up front - I would rather have a few weeds along the outside than to have a neighbor - un-happy with me - besides - it gives a good reason to spray the outsides with the Ranger : )))
remember - This is what I do on my ground - In Indiana - it may not work in your area :)))

Re: ecin herbicide question
ECIN when at the Fort Wayne farm show I will talk to Dow. Any questions on Hornet. Its the riverbottoms that are hard to handle. I see Dow claims that it is okay against roundup resistant weeds. I talked to one retailer and he said h was just plain embarrassed with his fields this last year. I agree Aatrex has a future, just our it on to max label.
