goss' wilt rAtings
In our part of nia we've had no experience with this disease, but are aware that the inoculum got here late last growing season(2011). Too late to affect us , but still here. What i'd like to hear is which hybrids NOT to plant. Looking for the very susceptible ones. Seed companies give ratings, but there is so little experience in our area that there are more questions than answers. I'd particularly like to hear about garst, dekalb, and pioneer 95-105. thanks for any advice.

Re: goss' wilt rAtings
Well, I will repeat what my consultant is telling me and also what the companies have to say. DeKalb is the company that weakened the gene pool with their use of an inbred from Mn, A302 I think. You have to avoid DeKalb genetics to limit your exposure to Goss' susceptible hibrids (52-62, 55-08. 5204 is new and am not sure...they rate it as better FWIW). Lancaster background varieties, tall and robust plants are very tolerant and are common in Syngenta genetics (NK 53W, 47V). Pioneer has genetics that are very resistant to tolerant (0528, 0448)

Re: goss' wilt rAtings
Good post, Mike. As a dealer of Syngenta(Garst and NK), I knew we had some resistance to Goss. I did a little research on those varieties with that genetic background..not much info on newer genetics. Not trying to sell here but I can post resistant hybrids if some are interested..MikeM

Re: goss' wilt rAtings
Actually, i just looked and 52-62/52-59 is rated better than most of their hybrids. Lot of questions....

Re: goss' wilt rAtings
Just so you know, there is no standard rating system for the industry. My experience with Goss' over the last 3-4 years is DeKalb as a company has a very poor lineup for tolerance, likely because of the iodent background for their inbreds. There is one other variety from DeKlab that escapes me right now.....53-78 is what it was. That was the 1st one that I saw Goss' in last year in this area. Two years ago we got hammered in 55-08. Since then we have dumped DeKalb on our farm.

Re: goss' wilt rAtings
The DKC52-59 background has good tolerance. Also, the 49J/53W types from Syngenta would be good as the one poster mentioned.
