I took the family to the Iowa State Fair today for the first time in 5-6 years. We toured the various exhibits and attractions. The wife went off to spend some time with sewing displays, I looked around for machinery and my daughter to my grandson to the midway.
After about 6 hours we were all ready to go home.
I noted that there was not a serious exhibition of farm machinery at the State Fair. Yes, I'd been watching the decline of agricutlure in the State Fari for years, but it struck me full force today just how far away from production agriculture the fair has become.
Yes, there are many livestock exhibits, oriented to 4-H and FFA. But there are no big machinery displays. We have to go to the regional shows like Spencer or the big national shows like Louisville to see lots of farm machinery.
