Re: Arrived AZ
weedman, where do you stay in AZ? I have family in the Phoenix area, and used to be some relatives near Camp Verde. Also a neighbor with family farming out near Yuma. Oh, the stories he could tell! SW, sounds like we should host an "A.com market forum in SW KS.

Re: Arrived AZ
Okay, enjoy the humor in your posts...... BTW, I have to work a little harder than SW. I have no irrigated ground. Sometimes we get our entire annual rainfall in one week. Kinda difficult surviving the other 51 weeks sometimes.

Re: Arrived AZ
Enjoying the "banter" here this morning. Weedman, it's -3* this morning here in central IA with a wind-chill of -24*!!! 2 to 3 inches of fluffy snow on the ground. It appears the soil here will freeze deeper this Winter than than the past few Winters and that should be good.
About three years ago, my wife and I after visiting relatives in Gove Co. we drove SW to the Grand Canyon in AZ. It was one of the most enjoyable trips I ever took. We drove through Garden City KS then drove South and remember eating lunch at a Chinese buffet in SW Kansas near the border. sw, help me out here, was that buffet in Liberal or was it in Wilburton? Anyway very good food. We then drove through the Oklahoma and Texas panhandles, flat ground. Very nice trip, the weather was sunny and warm most days.
As far as farming in SW K, you almost have to be born there to stay and make it work! I think if I moved there to live, I would have to have a center pivot passing over my house!! That brown crunchy grass in the dead of Summer would be hard to get use to.
Keep cold down there.

Re: Arrived AZ
We stay in Apache Junction. For those who don't know AJ is kind of out on the east side of the valley. We're 33 miles from Sky Harbor airport. We ended up here because my wifes parents came here and we visited once and I was hooked. Been coming since Jan 2003 and every year since. Staying 3 to 31/2 months the last 4 years or so.

Re: Arrived AZ
Either Liberal or Guymon Okla, Wind
Wilburton, Ks hasn't had a business in it since the 1930's or even 1920's when the population was at its highest in the area.
The dust bowl folks would have cried it they knew what was to come in the 1940's-1960's ---------- sitting on a huge gas field and decent water in many areas.
Tough place with good folks.

Re: Arrived AZ
You're right. My dream is to be able to spend 5 months, but always head back to God's country (WC SW IA) or anywhere in the midwest for that matter. Someday when I don't have to help plant or harvest.

Re: Arrived AZ
ECIN I'm starting to worry about you. You sound like you might be going a little stircrazy all this going from 74 to 24 and back. You might want to think about heading to Florida or Texas for a little R&R. Try some Trophy Oil. Don't be so hard on JCC he's probably been going from 74 to -24 and back.
