Re: Custom hauling charges

The problem is insurance and tires. When tires go, your not fixing it. Airbags too.

But 40c is a little high

Re: Custom hauling charges

Actually, that is really high. What the hell is going on? 10 tonne dumps?

Re: Custom hauling charges

Semi trailers hold around 900 bushels so that's 360 a load

Re: Custom hauling charges

We move around 1500 here. You need a bigger trailer. That would make more sense at 360/load

How you loading? Waiting at the field or by auger? Dunno that I would leave a truck waiting for hours for cheap though

Re: Custom hauling charges

They usualy drop the trailer off and you call them when its full. they put it near the field and fill with the combine.

Re: Custom hauling charges

That's likely where the cost comes from. Most guys wanna load 40 tonnes in 45 mins or less. Typically we're about 9.10/tonne here to the closest location.

Re: Custom hauling charges

It's the only part of my operation I still hire out just don't own a semi or trailer yet my dump truck is too small to be practical

Re: Custom hauling charges

Our local coop has offered this for a couple of years:

Pro Cooperative's Harvest 2013
On Farm/In Field Grain Pickup Program

Rate: 8 cents /bushel

** Billable to your account upon services rendered
and payable on the next billing cycle. Normal finance charges
apply to late unpaid accounts.

Requirements:

* Able to load trucks within 15 minutes
*Prefer a 10" auger or grain cart to fill
*Farm/field lane must be able to support a
  semi (for turning and weight)

Note: If requirements are not met, Pro Cooperative
reserves the right to refuse service or charge
an additional sitting fee of $50.00 per hour.

Please call your nearest Pro Coop location
to get on the list. The list will be based on a
first come/ first served basis. Considerations
will be given to the availability of trucks, weather
and field conditions.

This program and its fees are
subject to change without notice.

Re: Custom hauling charges

Yeah high is an understatement.  Maybe if you had like a 750 bu grain cart and could call and have the cart and combine full when they got there your rate should go down drastically.
