Deep Learning To Assess Corn Yields

"Deep learning (deep machine learning, or deep structured learning, or hierarchical learning, or sometimes DL) is a branch of machine learning based on a set of algorithms that attempt to model high-level abstractions in data by using multiple processing layers with complex structures or otherwise, composed of multiple non-linear transformations.[1][2][3][4][5]" From Wikipedia. I don't understand a word of it. Several companies claim they can use this method to develop corn yields predictions. Interesting choice of words. http://venturebeat.com/2015/11/17/descartes-labs-raises-5m-to-make-agricultural-predictions-with-dee... http://www.people.fas.harvard.edu/~bornn/Papers/CropYield.pdf http://www.slideshare.net/ErikAndrejko/deep-learninginagriculture http://www.cs.stanford.edu/~acoates/papers/CoatesHuvalWangWuNgCatanzaro_icml2013.pdf http://www.smithsonianmag.com/innovation/startup-wants-to-track-everything-from-shoppers-to-corn-yie...
