Enforcing Tillage Plans?

Do you know of even one instance of USDA enforcing or cracking down on a farmer who is in violation of tillage practices?

I don't mean the guy who plowed 3 feet inside a wetland, I mean the guy who uses a moldboard plow where he said he'd use minimum tillage or the guy who refuses to put in waterways and instead creates ditches or the guy who cuts the stream buffer to way below the agreed size?

Do you know of even one?

Re: Enforcing Tillage Plans?

No, enforcement of FSA so-called rules are a joke, just lip service to show we`re fulfilling our end of the bargain.  And I suppose the NRCS rules are not always practical for everyone in every situation and should have a blindeye enforcement.  But years ago when older farmers that were from a generation that still followed rules were freaked out that they might tile into what was called a wetland and would make sure they stayed far away from it and and was out with their tape measure to make sure their "highly erodible land" had it`s 30% residue on top.

But today Bigshots laugh and tile right through and they don`t use the "evil" moldboard plow, they do have a chopping cornhead and come in with a diskripper in the fall that leaves a field blacker than any well covering moldboard plow that I`ve seen..."but I use a diskripper and parked the plow, I`m a conservation guy!!!  Look at me!!".

True there isn`t any teeth in the conservation/production side of the farmbill bargains that were struck, but if it was that would interfere with the "cheap food" purpose of the farmbill, right?

There`s a big time no tiller that had a letter to the editor in a couple weeks back of Iowa Farmer Today that wanted to tie if you no till you get 25% additional cut on crop insurance premiums and another 25% cut if you use cover crops.

Re: Enforcing Tillage Plans?

The only thing I could imagine being worse that what fsa is allowing on marginal land in Iowa would be fsa personel managing farming practices in Iowa...

They cant get their paper work done here... and that is ok...by me

The no tiller has a better idea than fsa is going to come up with.
