Re: as long as federal crop insurance

The US trade deficit is and has been $800 billion, with our agricultural product exports being a small fraction of that $800 billion....so, is it your contention that we should`ve continued "business as usual"?    What do you tell the factoryworker who`s job moved overseas 10 years ago and he now has to work 2 or 3 jobs at a partial wage with no benefits?

And yes yes yes Libs, I know "but but but the trade deficit has went up since Truuuump enacted the tariffs!!!!!!!!!!"  That`s the way it works, importers and exporters try to get ahead of the curve before full tariffs come into effect.  The thing is with those tariffs, that`s revenue (a voluntary revenue) that is REVENUE that goes into the US Treasury...it`ll be less burden on those of us in the half of the country that actually pays income tax...You don`t want to pay a tariff?  Don`t buy the Chinese junk and you won`t have to pay it!

"But but but how do we knoooooow that the tariffs make it to the Treasury and not into Donald Trump`s backpocket??????"     You know Libs, there is such a thing as a stupid question and you can come up with more of them than I can answer, so go back to your 9/11 conspiracy theories!  Smiley Happy

Country of origin labeling is a must!  I`m a picky eater and don`t want some crap from Canada that might have friggin` horse meat  or a Mexican dirt floor processing plant.   I want USDA labels!!!   But I suppose the Brazilian owned JBS Swift wants us all eating the same "soylent green".

Re: perhaps since the consumer does

Not seem to care, why would the producers? Packers just don't want to waste time and money on another labeling process. I think we need country of origin labels for all meats....but that's just me. I also feel that the made in the USA label Sells better than anything else.

Re: the typical trumpey economy

Is folks with a masters degree and profession they've worked at for the past 16 years, and they have 2 part time jobs also, And they sell blood plasma weekly to try to stay above water financially.

obviously this must be how America wants to live.

this is what they voted for.

Re: perhaps since the consumer does

You couldn`t give away foreign "meats" if they were labeled in the US...sure a poor family buys mystery meat from WallyWorld or rolls the dice on if it`s "beef" at the Chinese buffet.   But we buy quality beef from Fareway stores, might cost just a little more, with food so cheap in America, no need to gamble on crap that might end up getting thrown out.

People with the luxury to know, do read labels and you see the popularity of niche markets of homegrown meats.

Re: the typical trumpey economy

Maybe the studied the wrong thing. There's more people working than ever before in America, wages have finally starting rising a bit faster than the rate of inflation, and there will soon be more manufacturing jobs in America. In most parts of America, if you want a job you can get a job, in your field. Friend of mine just got a five figure increase in pay to jump from one company to another as an accountant. I know two holders of masters degrees in statistics who both run departments in their companies, doing the best they ever did in their careers.

It may \not be the best economy ever, but it sure is a lot better than it was under the guy who was elected because he had brown skin and little brain. For eight years the only thing that kept the economy out of depression was government spending, which wound up doubling the US debt. We still are spending way too much, but at least now the economy is growing at 4% and generating bigger tax revenues. If one of these days the Congress would just hold up its middle finger to every whiner who wants a government handout, and then cut the budget to $3 trillion instead of $4 trillion, this economy could roar like it did in the 50s and 80s. Instead the government remains addicted to borrowed money, and the next recession which is due to come soon regardless if Jesus was in the White House is going to do severe harm to this country.

Re: the typical trumpey economy

I wouldn't be so sure about that switch. Americans keep shooting themselves in both feet by not staying the course with what works, interspersing it with what fails.

Whoever said democracy was the best form of government obviously had not lived in it long enough.

America will never flip any switches aside from the one that electrocutes them because half the country has its head stuck up its arse. Last Tuesday was a prime example, especially in Iowa. When you have a team that's winning, why change the players ? Damned stupid. Finally the government has been working in favor of the working man and woman, getting the economy to run hot, stopping the flow of criminals into the country, and giving the American businessman the protection to compete on a level playing field...and look what happens, half the American voters look to stop the program and elect a bunch of socialist morons to Congress, ensuring nothing will get done to help anyone for the next two years at least. They elected a half dozen liberal governors, several in States that have been ruined by liberal policies in the rust belt that sent all their good jobs to other countries south and west, even though they finally were beginning to see new policies bring jobs back to their States.

Nah, half of America is a bunch of brainless losers who listen to talking heads on television rather than making up their own minds. They are the cancer that will sap the lifeblood out of a once great country, who will pollute the population with mud-colored impoverished criminals who come to America for what they can get rather than what they can give, who have no qualms about bankrupting the American Treasury in the hopes of buying votes for re-election, who have no loyalty nor bond to the promises they make and because of it there's tens of millions of people in Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq who are forced to live under dictatorial governments. America's only hope at this point is to rid itself of its cancerous parts, stop sending tax money to Washington to fund bankers' losses and liberal's re-elections, and rid yourselves of the northeastern and left-coastal socialist republics.

The south and the Midwest have all the food and most of the retired soldiers, many of who served in combat during the last fifteen years. They have the fuel to power an army and the warriors to do it. The Red central and southern and mid west states should secede and declare themselves the USA, banning anyone from the present Northeast of left coast from entering their new country. And then hire all those soldiers to guard the border, barring the entry of any Yankee or left coast vermin, government forces, and all lawyers. That should be the future of America, comprende ? And the only acceptable languages in the new country will be English and French, with the latter only allowed when spoken by a woman weighing less less than 150 pounds.
