Re: Fuel Consumption

Taxes on road diesel and gas are very high. Near 60 many places. No good reason.
Elite governing nannies will get their jet fuel.

If competitive economics were allowed to work. The energy issue would solve itself— without the fear mongering. But that’s long gone. Our party and the Chinese party just gotta work out the details as soon as the US voters give up on that “constitution” dream.
It’s just other people’s money.

15 million barrels per day ???? Neither country can replace that in a few years. Without mass poverty trimming it way back.

Gas prices went up 30 cents in the last two months.  I should have bought sooner.  Smiley Sad

Re: Fuel Consumption

For good or bad, I`ve been a proponent of reasonable fuel taxes for roads, bridges and infrastructure, because those that do the damage should pay the repair.  Some will say "Whadda bout electric cars?  huh huh  Whadda bout electric cars??"  well they tend to be small not doing as much damage as a 80, 90,000lb rig and if those that want to put up with the hassle of electric cars whatever beating the system is a small consolation.  Not many electric cars on the road below zero, just saying.  Smiley Happy

The fuel tax is a cents per gallon, not a percentage, so when gas was $1 and 18 cents/gallon tax ...then 30 years later it was $4 gas and still that 18 cents in tax then we in Iowa raised it a dime, was like pulling teeth but the cost of paving a mile of road went up many times and that 18 cents no where near covered it, in the new millennium.

Plus roads and bridges, many built with the idea that railroads delivered the heavy goods in the 1950`s and corn hauled to town in 200 bushel Parker wagons.  The roads and bridges will get repaired the question is do you want to soak a Walmart truck or do you want the property taxes on your farm going up?   IMO

Re: Fuel Consumption

In a few years we will be paying road taxes based on miles driven as reported by your car's built in GPS spy system.  Better keep your woody.

Re: Fuel Consumption

Jim mile taxes make more sense “sort of”. Gas taxes are a mess because they are so inequitable. If gas is 5$ the tax is 10% —-at $2 gas it’s over 25%.
Guy who can buys a hybrid pays 2-3% and the guy who buys an electric isn’t on the road long enough to use the highway system. Long distance trucks piggy back through the Midwest and avoid out fuel taxes. Bot of course the refers pay out the nose to get good steaks to this costal grills
Extremely unfair levying of tax burden. Administered like a sin tax.
