Guy gift ideas?

A couple of us on the women's page are discussing some ideas for husband's gifts this Christmas.

Since I have learned below that women "overcomplicate" things, I thought I'd ask you gentlemen for some simple gift ideas you guys would enjoy this year.

Re: Guy gift ideas?

Good points.  I have also always tried to express a great deal of gratitude, since I have a wonderful husband.

Still, the family wants to put a box or two under the tree....it's often a means of teaching the kids how to be thoughtful and to give, you know?

If they like tools and tinkering, anything Leatherman is a good start.

A good general gift is a small, but powerful flashlight.  For top quality over price, try www.fenix.com  for good decent quality at very good prices (as in cheap enough to give as stocking stuffers) try www.ledshoppe.com   For blow-your-mind bright check out www.wickedlaser.com  (Hope I spelled that right)  They have a flashlight so bright, if you turn it on, and put a piece of paper over the lens, the paper catches fire.

If the kids are moved out, get a family picture of each of them & their families, together in a frame.

A bottle of massage oil, if you get my drift (or if he's getting up there in age, a Viagra & some Ben-Gay LOL)

Myself, nothing beats the little 'cards' my wife has the girls make for me.  They are 2 and 5, and she has them decorate colorful paper any way they want, and give them to me on special occasions.  They mean more to me than anything you could buy.

Re: Guy gift ideas?

I'm pretty easy to get gifts for.  The only no-no's are ties and underwear.  🙂  I can get them whenever.  A CD video collection of a special show or movie is good.  My son buys me a MASH season each year.  In fact, one year, I was in a B&N store looking at getting one and he was there buying the first series for me.  He told me later about it, though I figured it out.  Some electronics items, depending on what they are are nice.  Sometimes my wife and I actually share what each would like and we agree to let the other pick out the gift item.  Not a big surprise, but not a chance for disappointment either.

Re: Guy gift ideas?

I have tried to save all of the cards and such the kids gave us while they were growing up...you can look back and see how they grew up in what they wrote. Our middle kid, the older daughter, just sent us the most touching thank- you note, after her baby shower. It was not so much about the things we have tried to see that she got during this pregnancy, as about the stance Mike and I have taken in terms of supporting her and SIL in their roles as new parents- to- be. I could live off of that sweet sentiment for a long time....

Re: Guy gift ideas?

Those notes are the best gifts one can get.  One of the best times with one of our children was when we were preparing to leave them after a week stay.  We surrounded them with our arms, gave them our blessing, encouraged them, affirmed their role as parents and prayed with them.  Our little granddaughters were intently listening to the conversation.  Though being barely more than a year old, they were observing this moment as if they understood everything.  I'll never forget the look on their faces.

After their birth, I took all the pictures and videos of their first days in the world and made a short video of that time.  Included a music track that was appropriate.  Some time later, my son sent me a note, thanking me for the tribute.  An unforgettable moment that's the best gift one can receive.

Re: Guy gift ideas?

Kudos Smokey. A couple of years ago we celebrated our 50th anniverary. MY daughter and grandaughter compiled a family history of those 50 years with photgraphs of our wedding and meaninful events through out our lives. Each child their spouses and grandchild was highlighted as they came on the scene. As well as friends with whom we share boating and golfing with. All fof that was saved to dvd with a musical background.

This was a wonderful idea and it took a great deal of effort to put it all together.

I prefer my children spend nothing on me. They have their own family needs and we don't need anything that we can't buy for ourselves or each other. We know they love us and appreciate us by the way they include us in their lives.

Re: Guy gift ideas?

Hey, Kay. Have you seen this? A couple of our staff members did some research on some cool Christmas gift ideas for farmers. There are some pretty cool gadgets here, as well as some bigger tools and stuff that folks could get more use out of than a tie! Ha!

Re: Guy gift ideas?

Thanks, Jeff. Lisa posted us a link pn the women's page, sometime around when I posted this thread. Some really good ideas.... As for my farmer, he sat down yesterday and made a monster order of home brewing and winemaking supplies. We called this our anniversary gift to each other...but the beer is all his! He also hauled home his new gunsafe yesterday afternoon. He has wanted one for years, but never really made a point of asking for it. The right size came up at a reasonable price at Tractor Supply on sale last week. I have been studying the new Kindle Fire that arrived here yesterday. Nice for the price. If a guy is a real reader, that might make a nice gift, too.
