Re: Gypsy barn painters.
Right you are Kay! I`ve never heard of "Irish traveler" I googled them and they are quite a outfit. Here`s one story about them mixing diesel fuel with the paint they use http://www.greenevillesun.com/Local_News/article/Sheriff-Burns-Warns-About-Scams-By-Irish-Travelers-...
The one story said they kind of fix themselves up as "Liz Taylor" or "Elvis", the guy that was out here made himself look like Gary Busey when he played Buddy Holly.
What a bunch, everybody keep your eyes open!

Re: Gypsy barn painters.
They do have good memories. Last time they were around the guy insulted my 1885 barn. I told him if I ever saw his pickup again I would all the sheriff first, then talk to him. They were back this year but the guy did not stop at my place or anywhere I could see his pickup. Anyway, my son-in-law painted the old barn withan airless gun and oil base paint from Bomgaars. Great job....Soyroy

Re: Gypsy barn painters.
The last one that came by gave the name of a prominent neighbor as a favorite customer of his. I had him standing on the office stoop, and Mike saw him, slipped up behind the truck and saw the SC plate...we are in NC, near the VA line, so he was a good ways from home. I called the sheriff with the plate when he left.
In our part of the South, there are all sorts of scammers. Some drive around with a piece of rotten wood, and claim to find it in tne framing of the house, after doing an " inspection". They beat people - especially elderly ones -out of a great deal of money, where there is little to spare.
I think they run slip and fall scams on small businesses, too. Like I said, that movie is very instructive. Interesting culture and clan....

Re: I had a guy came in and contracted the painting of my corn crib
His crew came in and were spray painting it and a knock cam on my from door. A fellow mentionedthat it was alittle scary painting that "doghouse" on top of the crib. He asked if they could take it down and paint it and then put it back up. I told that I didn't think so as that was a much larger task than he thought.
Well they got it painted without removing the "doghouse" but like you say the paint didn't stay on too long!

Re: Not to worry...
I painted my old buildings with a bull dozer. I kept the grain bins and modern machine sheds.
