Historic Iowa county land values from 1962 to 2012- Very Interesting

Since we were talking farmland values on another thread, I thought you would find the following report interesting since it shows the values from 1962 to 2012 for all Iowa counties. As an example it shows Iowa farmland values of Clay County of $316/acre in 1962 and a value of $10,688/acre in 2012. Just since 1999 to 2012, the land went from $2,033/acre in 1999, to $10,668/acre in 2012. That's a $8,655/acre in just 12 years. A pretty darn good dirt appreciation rate.So if you only owned 1,000 acres, your farmland holdings would have gone up over $8,655,000. You can't but help seeing your overall Net Worth increase too. Anyway, below is the link to look at this report. It does a good job and be sure to look at the mid 1980's Farm Crisis years for a good understanding of why 33% of all Iowa farmers went bankrupt. If you are under 35 years of age currently, look at the mid-1980's Farm Crisis years very, very, close.
