Re: Corn is just not food another good point

Don't you think that our manufacturing sector has a lot to do with poor revenue as well. We don't make anything here anymore. Thats a huge problem. But more government hasn't been the answer.

Re: I say let ethol ride!

"The state-supported increase of the ethanol blend in the US is a major reason for the rise of corn prices in our view."

I don't think that's right.  We're close to but not at the blend wall yet, so I don't see that increased ethanol demand is accurate.

Bruce Babcock, ISU professor of economics said in 2010 that removal of the blenders credit would not move corn prices much.

"Projected strong demand for ethanol in Brazil combined with a largely saturated U.S. ethanol market means that elimination of ethanol import tariffs would have almost no impact on U.S. corn and ethanol markets in 2011. Elimination of the tax credit would impact markets modestly, with ethanol production declining by an average of about 700 million gallons. This reduction in ethanol production would cause corn prices to drop by an average of 23 cents per bushel. Ethanol prices would drop by 12 cents per gallon. Elimination of the tax credit would shift the burden of meeting mandates from taxpayers to blenders and consumers. Taxpayers would save more than $6 billion through elimination of the tax credit, or almost $7.00 per gallon of ethanol produced in excess of mandated amounts."

Personally, I'd like to see the tariff and blenders credit dropped.  The mandate is the thing that drives ethanol demand.  It is a political decision involving environmental policy.

Anyone who thinks I'd grow cheap corn in lieu of some other crop such as soybeans, hay, CRP, leased hunting or whatever is not considering my financial goals and objectives.  I feel no obligation to "feed America" on the cheap.

In the midwest, we've always had grain storage, even if it meant piling it on the ground.  Many farmes who had to sell off the combine hedged their grain.  With grain storage and screwy markets, some farmers are storing it and not hedging.  On farm storage means less need for local elevators, as farmers sell through a grain buyer and ship directly to the mill.

Re: That is a typical knot headed

We have nine neighbors...four of whom work.. Those are our daughter and SIL and another couple.  That guy's adult son is on lifetime disability for drug-damaging his brain with homemade meth.

So, have I got a lot of sympathy for this racket?  NO!

Re: That is a typical knot headed settle down kay

Kraft t is the perfect example of why our country is broke. The entitlement complex never ends with some. I have a son who has manic depression, he really struggles at time but god bless the kid he is working through it and making a living, those are who need help not those who wont help themselves

Re: That is a typical knot headed settle down kay

By virtue of our three young adult offspring, we are directly or indirectly involved with five or six young people on a fairly ongoing basis, between spouse/significant other relationships.  Every one of them works very hard, physically and mentally...and it is not alwasy easy for any of them.

I could point to hearing loss, vision problems, and even one who was literally born lacking  one hand and with doctors convinced that both legs required amputation.  I am in awe of that last one, who married into our bunch.  They are all about disgusted with the world right now, and with good cause.

If it is "knot-headed" to expect grown people who can do so  to do SOME damned thing to support themselves, then I am guilty as charged, and will wear the slur with pride.  Bless your son...he will be fine with you supporting him emotionally.

Grow up man!

Cowfarmer referring to what you said to Kraft if you don't like paying current price for corn you also can quit, you are not owed a cheap feed stock either! End the ethanol subsidy who cares but none of you are harping about the money given to oil. Remember when people tried to come up with new products made from corn ( shopping bags come to mind) all farmers thought that would be great but had it made a nickels worth of difference in corn price livestock people would have screamed bloody murder. All this amounts to is your table got turned if you don't like it quit feeding it & sell it you could make millions. Also JR most dairy farmers I know need 30 hours a day to keep up, how do you find so much time to stir the pot on here?
