Re: If you believe in the flat tax
My thoughts exactly. We have a system where big corporations, and special interests tend to get special favors, at the expense of the average working citizen.
To me, it seems that the biggest difference between the parties, is which big businesses, and special interests, are the ones getting the favors, and even then, the line is blurring.

Re: If you believe in the flat tax
Not just France, but many countries in Europe. There have been studies, that show that if we were to use the spent nuclear rods we already have, and recycle them with those new-style plants, we would have enough fuel for the entire countries electrical needs for years. This could be done, without creating/extracting one more ounce of nuclear fuel, and as an added bonus, it reduces the radioactivity of the fuel, making it safer.
Too bad we have government policies that prevent us from using this technology, which, ironically, was developed in the USA.

Over the past four decades, America’s reactors have produced about 56,000 tons of used fuel. That “waste” contains roughly enough energy to power every U.S. household for 12 years. And it’s just sitting there, piling up at power plant storage facilities. Talk about waste!
The sad thing is, the United States developed the technology to recapture that energy decades ago, then barred its commercial use in 1977. We have practiced a virtual moratorium ever since.

Re: If you believe in the flat tax
So if you have Ten Million in capital gains over your lifetime, you should be able to pass that on to your heirs without a taxable event? I think all income should be taxes. If not during your lifetime at least upon your demise.
But that is the different mindset in that people think capital gains should get a special status over ordinary income. I suppose that is because ordinary income is so easy to earn and little people should pay more taxes than i do.

Re: If you believe in the flat tax
We are the acheivers and we do pay taxes. The problem is the super acheivers think they should get lower rates because their income is more precious than ours. So while I am paying 35% mitt is paying 13% and supposedly he is a job creator but mostly he makes his money by firing people and hiring chinese.

Re: If you believe in the flat tax
No one is suggesting that but realistic depreciation over aperiod of time wpuld be acceptable. The way we used to do it without allowing farmers and businesses de[preciate 250K units in one year.
