Good point! Alternative interest bearing options is barely positive. You might as well stack it in a closet as invest it in CD's. I wonder how many farmers appreciate the low interest operating capital they have had over several years.

SW & Don - As week have discussed an operation having a operating loan double of what it was 10 years ago - CHEAP interest means what - handling twice as much $$$ at a cheaper rate ---

No interest payments are superior to low interest rates if you are the borrower. Unless of course you can borrow and use it wisely. Increasing income with the use of borrowed capital should be the objective.

That`s ridiculous, $75/acre tax on $5,000 land! It`s time to break out the torches and pitchforks...but farmers are the minority and the elite in St Paul will keep bleeding them dry. Thank goodness in Iowa we`ve had Governor Terry Branstad that has put limits on excessive property tax, but still we have to constantly keep tabs on county supervisors.
