Re: Reporter writing about labor shortages
Can anyone dare to put in writing what they think a living wage is ? Working for $ 10 / hour around these parts for big pig would be a fair amount - although I would expect an extra $ 7 an hour just to put up with the stench - then again maybe not ---

I think that would be fair and then the Gas ? you know from the pit , Have read about people meeting there maker on that one - another 10 for hazardous pay , then if a gal is running the show - What kind of price do you put on that ?????? 10 - 20 bucks an hour - Man I don't know - lol

Re: Reporter writing about labor shortages
Our farm employee salary range is $42-52,000 with the average around $49,000; range varies on longevity w/ operation.
Last years bonuses added an average of nearly $11000 per employee on top of salary.
Hourly guys who help part-time get $14.50 - $15.00/ hour.
There are other perks on top of that such as meals, uniforms, etc.
Is that considered a livable wage?

Re: Reporter writing about labor shortages
Dairy Mom - It makes a BIG difference , A guy taking orders from a gal , thats just not right ! It's bad enough all the orders you gals bark out when we get home , then at work too ?? and you should know that guys do nothing right and would end up redoing what the hired guy did , so more work for the gal .
