Like  putting   a  C A F O 's  in    Zion  CanYon    or  Pivots   to   surround  The  Great  Salt  Lake  - - -

States  / Millions  -  Alaska  223 ,  Ariz  72 ,  Calif 45 , Idaho 33 , Mont 27 ,  New Mex  26 ,  Nev  59 , Oregon 32  , Utah 34 , Wyo 30   -

While  Kansas  has  @290,000  and  the  results  for  Ks.   ARE  ?   Maybe  if  they  sold  it  some  of  those  Buffalo  Commons  county's  could  reverse  the  decline ?

Another  hint -  sell  the  Federal  Land  to  @ New  CambridgE  AnalYtics  Gruop  ,  file  Chapter  something ,  and  or  do  a  Smithfield  sale  to  China  or  Maybe  Russia  -  waLAA  problem  solved - - -

Remember  Indiana   sold  some  freeway  roads,  might  check  on  the  REAL  RESULTS  of  that  - maybe ?

Ask  your  extension  agent  HOW  MANY - 2$  -  loaves  in  a   bushel  of  wheat,   or  $3  corn  in  a  $3.79  box  of  CornfLakes -  hurry  though  due  to  forecast extension  office  closure's  due  to  budget   con straints  - maybe ?

Re: Rural Kansas Dying

One problem is we are in as close to a "monoculture" as you can get.  In Iowa you raise corn and beans and finish hogs, in Kansas you probably raise wheat year after year.  That makes you very vulnerable to markets, weather and pests, like if China slapped a tariff on beans and pork on a "1950`s farmer" he wouldn`t care, he had oats, milk cows, eggs and next year plant the back 40 to flax or buckwheat.   And waterhemp??  His rotation and cultivation, it didn`t stand a chance.

But I know I know I know "the elevators don`t take oats.  They only buy corn, beans and wheat!   And the John Morrel hog buying station closed!".  Hindsight being 20/20, land grant universities and companies should`ve gotten us more diversified, yes, Ethanol is good and Mad Housewife Vineries is good...but what have they done for us lately?

In the 80`s the decision was made (for us) that we are going to ship factories overseas where labor is cheapest.  Workers that had good paying jobs exchanged them for the "God given right to shop at Walmart"  maybe they didn`t make as much as they used to, but their fewer dollars went further at Walmart.   That was the deal with the devil that was made.

And now when the trade imbalances are attempted being corrected, the cries of "Wage inflation! Wage inflation!  Your Walmart junk is gonna get more expensive!".  NPR talks out of both sides of their mouth saying "Trump is causing wage inflation!" and then "Wages aren`t going up despite 3.9% unemployment rate...Trump`s fault!".  Those who know nothing go running in the streets babbling against everything.

Re: Rural Kansas Dying

Walk   into  HyVee  with  the  same  $$$  as say  10  years  ago  - and  exit  with  how  many  less  bags  today  of the same contents ?

The  '''  6  figure '''  experts  haven't  a clue -  or  do  they  play  the  malfeasance  card ?

Re: Perhaps simply enact a Land Lotto

ESay everyone that buys a ticket gets 1.

say $2 per ticket.

keep in mind you can structure the tickets sold payout to whatever $$$$ per acre the govt wants...say $100,000 per acre would be a nice payback.

there are all kinds of smaller parcels that are hemming in cities and towns in the west.

say lotto off 5 to 10 land parcels per week.

And there could be a secondary land market developed too...i.e. For those winners that want to trade or sell parcels etc..

Re: Perhaps simply enact a Land Lotto

I`ve often thought the way things will end up one day, the government will own all the land (and they do, just try not paying property taxes 3 yrs and you`ll see the real owner).   But, the government in their quest for revenue will auction off rights to farm a piece of ground for a year and the highest bidder gets the "honor" to pay the highest land tax/rent.    The way the Nebraska guys talk, it`s about that bad there already.

Isn`t that the "eminent domain discussion" now?  a piece of ground would generate more tax revenue as a housing development so a well connected developer convinces the county to "condemn" the property and he builds nice little cookie cutter houses, the county gets high taxes and the previous owner gets tail meat.   Legalized stealing.

Re: Perhaps simply enact a Land Lotto

And   WHO   IN  GOVERNMENT   runs  this  LOTTO   operation   ?

Buffett ,  Gates ,  C. Larry  Pope  of  Smithfield Foods,  Paul  Manafort ,  Rick  Gates ,  Elliott Broidy  , Mike  Cohen .  Anthony  Weiner ,   or  Rod Blagojevich , Scooter  Libby  ?

360 million  tickets  X  $2  = $720,000,000,. oo    and  that  goes  against  the  NEW  1  TRillion $$$  added debt  or  1, 000,000,000,000,000.oo  ?

Then  places  like  Malheur National  Wildlife  Preserve   could  get  rid  of  those  pesky  ducks  and  birds  and  grow  wheat ,   add  several  multimillion  $$$  motels  to  the  place ?

Go  out  to  Stanton County Kansas,  build  a  150 million $$  golf - hotel complex,  country  club  style,  a big  enough  airport landing  strip  for  Air Force  1 ,  wala  they  will  come - ?

Hint  -  not  to  close  to  a  CAFO  livestock  facility  -  maybe  -  just  say'n  ?

Keep in mind there's 10,000 to 50,000 acre

Tracts to be lottoed off too.

the Feds buy 200,000 to 2 to 3,000,000 acre chunks every year in the west.

they use the antiquities act and the oil royalty fund to accomplish such.

once they own it...then comes the roadless wilderness designation soooo the public does not get to use the land.

i say use the darn dirt other than for a fire haven and to raise employment numbers every summer fighting fires.

Good   points   Wright  -   although  tax   $$$$$$$  are  used  to  fight  fires  in  newly  developed  neighborhoods  on  land  that  was  once  unoccupied  - - -

Maybe  a  compromiZe    could  work   on  some  new  ways  to  address  these  issues  -   -   -

Development  has  sometimes  worked  in  reverse ,  leaving  the  locals  pushed  out  by  BIG  $$$$$$$$$$$$,  ask  some  local  folks  around  Aspen  ?
