Heard this last week. Gosh, what a sad deal...

I actually am working on finalizing some stories for our May issue of Successful Farming about Agriculture.com, since May will mark our 20th anniversary. I had reached out to LuAnn a while back; she and Ed met because of this site, basically, and I wanted to feature their story. I called her and chatted on the phone with her, then exchanged emails with her and Ed a little later on. It was great. They are great folks, and they had a lot of fun sharing their story with me. It was really a fun experience chatting with them about it. I was going to wait to put up this story, but thought now is a good time. An abbreviated version will appear in our May issue:

Ed was a great man and truly a man of the soil, which I admire so much. I know we'll miss him around here. Anybody have any little stories about Ed you'd like to share?

That`s a great idea Jeff.  I never met him, but he was someone that always contributed something valuable, you just felt smarter after hearing what Ed Winkle had to say.

Also, here's another thread over in Women in Ag with folks talking about Ed. I was just going back through some emails I'd gotten from Ed a while back when I was chatting with him about their story, and one of his last ones included this. What a guy! I jokingly asked him if he'd let LuAnn screen his comments before he sent them to me so he didn't get his rear end in too much trouble. We really had fun with it.

"Don’t worry, when she asked me what I add I told her and she said send it.  Do not send without prior permission, now that has gotten me in trouble! Fine fine article, Jeff, just like us telling it.  We both had good memories and a good laugh."
