I'd bet NC Choice has a program to get veggies farms to comply with FDA's new rules. USDA doesn't regulate produce. Most of the sustainable ag conferences do food safety certification now days. And you are absolutely correct that they are a huge ordeal in both time and money. We have a very small food business. I figure at least 3750 hours per year just in regulatory compliance. I could see how we could easily allocate (but not afford)15000 hours for keeping USDA happy, QA work, and production record keeping.
