Re: Sell Cheap Buy High - Two Economies?

NFO helped a few folks get out of farming.

Couldn't sell their ideas in many areas.

And helped farm bureau expand size.

Took themselves out of relevance in agriculture.

Where does a farm group go in agriculture when your winning message is "don't plant".....----

No place to be and 40 years later............... no interviews.

It always reminds me of a archie bunker school of intellectual persuits.

"This ________  can't survive without me."

I keep looking for that on headstones....

Re: Sell Cheap Buy High - Two Economies?

Don't get me wrong

A good healthy "I am not needed here" or "My efforts were not important"  0000000 or some other reevaluation similar to those of most manual labor careers headed to extinction.  Or maybe thowing the wrench into the corn field as hard as the old lefty will...........................(never a 15/16 or a 9/16- God's tools)

Frustration is the word of the day.....  and millions of children will be born not knowing what a blessing it was to work with family on a farm  for those interesting few years when we felt important ............ before we were reminded we are just the workers.

It is a great system....... If they need it they will pay more  for it.  And if they don't they won't.   But we have built protection into the system way too much.

We need to reintroduce fear to make things work better.

Re: Sell Cheap Buy High - Two Economies?

By going long buying cheap contracts like they are now with the knowledge there wouldn't be any corn, you could afford not to plant. Buy what you normaly produce, basically at production cost but don't produce. This would have to be an organized effort and done quietly. I know it will never happen but one can dream!
My grandfather used to say " you can't get 10 people together to watch a piss ant eat a watermelon" so I'm sure that won't happen either.

Re: Sell Cheap Buy High - Two Economies?

Better yet just get an organization together, buy quietly long and then anounce it as a potiental plan, don't even have to emplement it. Just have the organization announce that the farmers have went long in the market and not sure if they want to plant. Just the rumor would make a lot of grain users very nervous.

Re: Sell Cheap Buy High - Two Economies?

Anounce the number and acres participating in the organization, and when usda calls for prospective planting acres, tell them haven't decided! By doing something like this the producer would become the market maker, as it should be!

Re: Sell Cheap Buy High - Two Economies?

And after all that USDA would announce a normal 14 B corn crop regardless of "rumors" from fly over country and another record 16 B crop just around the corner for the next two years.

And as you sell your equipment ag news will remind you that Farmers just don't know much about "Marketing"
