Re: Sorry
The budget, crop insurance, tarrif payout for farmers, DOD are all subsidies to some one or company. When it is someone else it is socialism. Personally it does not bothe rme much unless it is large corporate receiving the subsidies. Particularly when they are foreign owned. The budget is so far out with deficits might as well forget calling it budget.

Re: Sorry
Well, so far farm subsidies shouldn`t be called "farm" subsidies, but rather consumer/voter cheap food policies. I mean, people in the US are more worried that their smart phone is broken than are worried about where their next meal is coming from. The landlords hear about a "ARC payment" or "Trump money" and raise the rent, the farmer doesn`t even take possession of the "socialist money" before some greedy old fart gets his hands on it for his cut. The "Farm Bill" is 80% food stamps for hardup clowns with Nike shoes and a $1,000 I-Phone. And the 20% that allegedly goes to farm operators passes through buying Buicks and Winnebagos for 75yr olds to drive to some Godforsaken "valley" in Texas.
Most of us of late have only a big goose egg in subsidies the last 3 years, (Trump money notwithstanding) it won`t make or break anyone. The "carrot" of a subsidy that`s dangled just out of reach is just a guarantee that if everything does go totally in the crapper, the banker is assured his pound of flesh, so he keeps the stream of ag money flowing.

Re: Sorry
Besides hard up clowns, a fair amount of what used to be , honest, hard working, next - last generations are being sold out with the milk, pork, poultry, soon to be others , with a '' jump on the integrated '' , utopia bandwagon - - -
Stamp farms, happy dance headlines might not work for everyone - maybe ?
Working for BIG store, sell everything, pick it up outside, retail, for a wage that a-lines you with SNAP as a benefit , is a headline to boast about - ?

Re: Sorry
Food stamps are probably a necessary evil in today`s environment, but that enables employers to hire workers at less than a "living wage" they probably have "How to sign up for SNAP" pamphlets at the $10/hr job fair. But then you have those that take advantage and have the $1,000 I-Phone because they don`t pay anything for their food.
I don`t know, but when someone says "socialist farmers" 9 times out of ten they go on to use that in justifying Obamacare and free college and the Green New Deal...and and and.

"socialist farmers"
I am not an expert on world wide socialism by any means, but I am pretty sure that socialism is not where you stick your neck out for a couple of million of dollars and get a $10,000 per year subsidy back to encourage fence row to fence row planting. and cheap food.

Re: Sorry
Socialism is where food and spending income are limited in volume by government
Our system depends on excess volume to limit cost and supply surplus. With government controlling the data and information. —— different means same goal. Government control.

Re: "socialist farmers"
Sometime in the late 70`s as a 12yr old or so, I recall a segment on the 60 Minutes show when a high flying farmer that was hooked up with FHA. Now this was before the "farm crisis", the FHA farmer said "FHA keeps pushing money on me, if I have a poor crop or bad year they force me to borrow more money!". There were stories locally at the time that FHA forced farmers to buy a new pickup or anything every year and some thought it was a government plot to take over farming, grow the FHA farmers so big and in debt that government would have the say in production. Well, we all know how that worked out in the 80`s....government and bankers did write off debts of some of the golden boys in the 80`s.
But back to my original point The farmer in the 60 Minutes show said something I`ve never forgotten "With FHA I can`t fail! My dad always said that communism is when they take away your right to fail and that`s what`s going on with the Farmers Home Administration...communism!" . It`s like the sub-prime housing debacle too that crashed finally in 2008. It was free money for unafordable houses that worked until it didn`t.
