I am not sure what the final settlement will be but  hearing the same as you. I think once Cargill and Trans Coastal Supply filed lawsuits thats when lawyers felt farmers deserved to get in on the action. If we do get a settlement it will probably be based on what the above 2 companies get. Like I said it was easy to sign up, 60 percent of something is better than nothing. Personally did not want to be left in the station when the train goes by.

Lawsuits of this nature are rarely - if ever - about common sense or the common good. They are almost purely abput money, and lawyers count on taking their cut.

They run the odds, then forage around, looking for " injured parties". It is a disgrace, but we get the sysyem we pay for.

As I remember the markets through that time....... usda talked the market down from March through the spring with the record crop coming, then china talked the market down with the trait rejections and threat of not buying more, which was largely a lie....

So If Syngenta is liable for providing the trait subject for china to cheapen their purchases, following the same line of reasoning,,,, shouldn't the producers be liable for at least half the fall in corn prices(especially in the months before planting after the failure of the previous two years) because he provides the usda(and the market gurus) with that ever popular, "better every year" trendline record performances.

Just saying.............

It is a very irresponsibe world we live in.  If we can't get our liability "hooks" in somebody, how we gonna make it ?????

First of all, I don`t want to discourage anyone from joining the lawsuit if they think that Syngenta did cost them money, right is right and you have to fight for what you believe in.  That said, a year from now if Syngenta has to send out some $100,000 checks to individual farmers, I`ll be pretty long faced for not signing up, then I`ll be at the station with no train   🙂  but if that`s the dumbest thing I do, I should still make it.

Well like I told the Wife, before Lincoln became president and was a representative a guy was trying to bribe him and kept uping the price of the bride until Lincoln threw him down the stairs.  The guy asks "Why did you do that???" and Lincoln replied "You were getting too close to my price"

Lawyers have to have clients that have suffered losses. The more clients the more opportunity for shared awards.

Individually, the only real power we have to hold these companies accountable for their actions is to buy from another company in the future.  At least, with the lawyer groups chasing down the big bucks thru class-action suits, the sum total of the damages might be enough for the companies to mend their ways.  Still, in this particular situation, China really jerked them around on the trait approval.  Yet, that doesn't relieve the company from rollling out the product, before it was approved, that they knew, or should have known, would make it into the marketing channels.
